For native English speakers

You may be a native English speaker already successful in your career. But are you confident that you have the communication skills you need to achieve your ultimate career goals?

Anne can quickly identify and correct grammatical errors in your business writing and help you build relevant vocabulary and phrasing. Or is finessing your oral communication skills your main focus? A few sessions may give you the confidence you need to continue the push forward in your career.

Anne can assist you with specific goals such as:

  • crafting public speaking pieces
  • preparing and giving presentations
  • preparing your resumé and responses for a job interview.

She can advise you as to what program you would most benefit from. But if your concern is your presentation the next day, or an urgent communication to distribute to colleagues, we can give that immediate priority. Because sessions are one-to-one, the content can be varied from one session to the next. You can have the support you need, for just as long as you need it.

 For non-native speakers, ESL

Are you well-qualified in your field but worried your English language skills are letting you down? It is often frustrating for highly-qualified professionals having to communicate in a language other than their mother tongue.

Anne has years of experience living and working in Asia and has assisted many professionals from countries of origin including China, Japan, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Taiwan, Singapore and Vietnam, as well as from Europe and other regions.

If you are not a native English speaker, you may have difficulty with ‘small talk’ in English, e.g., the preamble before meetings or at the beginning of phone calls to clients. This is often a critical part of the negotiation process, establishing rapport and setting the tone before the substantive part of the dialogue begins. Anne can help you identify appropriate topics and develop fluent conversation for such occasions.

  • Ongoing occasional online support.

Many of Anne’s clients have had weekly sessions with her for many years. Others use her services from time to time for specific tasks. There is no need to commit in advance to a set number of lessons. You will be provided with the support you need, for just as long as you need it.

Content tailored to you:

The style of spoken communication, the high-frequency vocabulary used and the style and content of writing all vary from industry to industry and profession to profession. Anne devotes her own time to familiarising herself with any specialist technical terms, in the process of designing a program tailored to your specific needs.

A lesson may include a combination of elements such as:

  • Developing useful phrases and broadening vocabulary through conversation on topics of interest or importance to you
  • Identifying good and bad habits in oral presentations
  • Proof-reading and identifying common errors in your written work
  • Grammar and punctuation guidance and correction
  • Pronunciation correction.

To extend the benefit of each coaching session you may be offered homework, e.g., grammar exercises targeting specific difficulties, writing tasks to reinforce improved sentence structure, or listening to academic or other audio programs to broaden vocabulary and improve pronunciation. Homework is not essential, of course, but ideal for solid progress.
